Prison Ministry

The Heritage Christian Center Prison Ministry seeks to put into action the words of Matthew 25:36 " I was in prison and you came to Me." In his heart, Bishop Leonard desired to take these words of Christ and reach out to those in the prison.

The ministry seeks to help individuals accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, develop a deeper walk with God, gain self confidence, and acquire a sense of community --- regardless of race, color, social or economic background.

The Prison Ministry encompasses many areas and activities including Jail Visitation, Chapel Services, Special Events, Halfway Houses, Aftercare, Bible Studies, Family Support Groups, Mentoring and Counseling.

Ministry teams go into prisons, youth detentions centers, and halfway houses to provide non-denominational services, bible studies, workshops, seminars, special yard events and spiritual support.

Sports teams share the message of God's love through basketball and softball. Testimonies are shared and salvation is offered.

Satellite Systems have been installed in all of the Colorado State Prisons to provide Christian television to inmates and prison staff.

Aftercare assistance is available to inmates getting out of prison through Pre-release Counseling, Transportation, Community Assistance, Mentoring, Job Search, Housing, Support Groups, Mentoring Programs, and Backpacks (with personal care items).

Support groups are designed to minister to ex-prisoners as well as people who have a relative or friend currently or previously incarcerated.

Resources are provided to inmates, prison libraries, and chaplains. Bibles, books, and videos, CD's, and audiotapes of Bishop Leonard's sermons are all available at no cost to those in jail and prison.

Volunteer Training is provided through an eight-weeks Basic 101 training course. This in-house training helps the volunteer to understand issues dealing with inmates, their psychology, and ministering to inmates and Correctional Officers.

Heritage Prison Ministry maintains affiliations with several other ministries that work in Colorado prisons and jails including Justice Ministry Network, Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, Prison Fellowship, Friends in Transition, Bill Glass Ministries, Kairos, Set Free Ministry, and Restorative Justice.
